Vermont-New Hampshire Veterinary Clinic

In Case of an Emergency

The veterinarians at VT-NH Veterinary Clinic are available in case of emergency for our regular clients after normal business hours. Keep emergency phone numbers easily accessible and be sure that any pet-sitters or boarding facilities have your pet's emergency information. There are a variety of options available for emergency services and our doctors can help you to determine which of these would be best for you and your pet. If you have a pet requiring emergency care please call our regular office number, and you will be instructed to provide your name, phone number, pet's name and nature of the emergency. The doctor who is on call will then be paged with that information. Doctors try to return all calls as soon as possible but please give them 15-20 minutes to reply as they may be treating another emergency or be out of cell phone range. If you have not heard back from a doctor within this time frame please call again as there may have been an error with the paging service.

Although we do have a doctor available we do not have a full staff available for advanced surgical cases or intensive 24 hour care after hours. If your pet requires this level of care you may be referred to one of the area's full service emergency clinics so that you and your pet can receive the best possible care. There is a small animal emergency clinic in South Deerfield, MA that we often utilize. Our doctor on call can help you decide if your pet should come into our clinic for treatment or go to one of the emergency clinics for more advanced care. We may also suggest referral for exotic patients such as pet birds or reptiles requiring emergency care as they often require specialized care and treatment.

Equine patients may be seen on the farm by our veterinarian on call. Because we have one doctor on call to serve all of our patients, horse owners outside of our usual service area may be asked to bring the horse to our clinic for treatment. It is always a good idea to have a transportation plan available for your horse in case of emergency. For severe equine emergencies such as surgical colics, you may need to transport your horse to an emergency equine facility. Following these guidelines will allow us to provide quality emergency services you and your pets.
